Share
If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to explore in Southern Illinois, the Kinkaid Spillway is a must-see. Tucked away in nature, this multi-tiered waterfall offers a peaceful escape and a chance to enjoy the outdoors without having to travel far.
What You’ll See
The Spillway is a cascading waterfall where Kinkaid Lake flows into a rocky pond below. Even when the water is low, the scene is stunning, with layers of rock, rushing waterfalls, and the sound of nature all around. On my recent trip, I spotted fish swimming in the clear water and bright yellow butterflies fluttering across the air - it was truly magnificent!
Best Time to Visit
While the Spillway is worth visiting any time, it’s especially breathtaking after a fresh rain. When the water is higher, the falls become more powerful, creating a dramatic flow that’s perfect for photos and sightseeing.
